Episode 5: For the love of Cranks edition

This week on the Diatribe: The Ugly Three;  Ballot measures 60, 61 and Prop 101: The tyranny of the pitchfork mob?

Can Denver really be a film-making capital or can The Denver Post  really just write a damn profile of a local crank and screw the so-called news value? Finally, our shout outs for some of our favorite local websites.

This week on love and hate:  Jared hated on the hypocrisy of the anti-Hickenlooper billboard campaign Who Said You Said; Joel loved on Denver Center for the  Performing Art’s program to win free tickets, and John loved on the proud tradition of American cranks as outlined in Charles Pierce’s excellent book, Idiot America.

Here’s a decent overview on the ballot measures. Here’s another. And here’s a good look at the bizarre, but not at all stupid, strategy of the amendment backers, whoever they are.

And here’s Lisa Kennedy’s fluffy and grating profile of Cherry Creek gadfly and Hollywood on the Front Range dreamer schemer Michael Liebowitz.

Our web picks:

Jared: Denver On A Spit and Johns TV.

Joel: Denver Infill and Denver Open Media.

John: Westword’s Cafe Society (with reservations, which include, but are not limited to, wayyyy too much advertorial,  an inbred fear of writing anything negative about a local restaurant, and highly dubious rewriting of corporate press releases as blog content.)
