In this week’s episode, in honor of March Madness, we talk about food and tournament brackets, and how we’ve now resorted to making tournament brackets about food.
It all gets a bit messy and meta, but thankfully we have on hand just the sort of reasonable guy to help us sort it out: Mark Manger, longtime local photographer and the guy behind Westword’s restaurant photography for the past 11 years. For Manger, shooting restaurants, chronicling the delicate dance between the front and back of the house, is akin to capturing street poetry. That’s why, as he tells us, he recently started showcasing his best visual versus on a new blog, “Candid Cafe,” with a potential book on the horizon.
Seriously, this guy Manger’s a pro. For the show he literally filled out an entire 16-team tournament bracket of his favorite local foodie neighborhoods. The rest of us? We just screwed around. As usual.
